Pop-up Tent

PROS

It’s quick and easy to set up even if it is your first time camping. If you are finding a tent for your kids then a pop-up tent is the best option. The Pop-up tents are also good when you want to go for a night stay after parties, festivals, and concerts

CONS

They don’t handle bad weather. Because they contain 3 loops which help it to get set up. It’s supported by guy lines on the exterior of the tent. The other problem with pop-up tents is that the rain gets integrated into the tent.

When to ignore it

A lot of Pop-up tents will have large windows for ventilation. But they are not good at condensation in cold temperatures and where there is a high level of humidity. So when to ignore it?

  • Avoid Autumn
  • Ward off Winter
  • Skip Spring

Instant Cabin Tent

What makes a tent an Instant Cabin Tent?

You can justify it with the help of its shape. These are square or rectangular shaped tents and big size of side walls giving a lot of space for headroom. It gets its structure from large telescoping aluminum poles that attach to a center disk. The poles are sewn into braided straps on the outside of the tent floor and you can extend the poles or unfold them. The frame of the Instant Cabin Tent is on the outside of the tent. Some large Instant Cabin tents have some extra poles that run on the side walls for some extra support.

Cabin Tents

It’s easy to set up. You can set up it within 5 to 7 minutes. These types of tents are best set up with 2 people

PROS

These tents have a lot of space inside them, you can also walk around inside the tent. Because of its vertical walls, you can consume all the space inside the tent. These types of tents tend to handle high winds situations very well. They are also good in bad weather conditions. Cabin Tents are super easy to set up even for beginners you can set up these tents in a few minutes.

CONS

Cabin tents are very large, they take up a large space in your car when you are heading to the campsite. It also takes up a fair amount of space in your garage or storage.

It contains large vents on the top, and because of that they are not good at condensation or when there is a temperature drop off at night. It has very little breathability. If the weather is good, I recommend you open those windows to allow airflow. But still, your gears are going to end up damp and that is because of condensation. I will recommend you don’t take these types of tents to the bad weather places

Dome Style Tents

PROS

These tents are the most popular style tent in America, there are some good reasons for that:

  1. They are available at many big box stores, so it’s very easy to get one for yourself.
  2. These tents are available at an affordable price. If you are a beginner and don’t want to invest so much, you can get a dome-style tent for you.
  3. They handle bad weather conditions pretty well including high winds and heavy rainfall.
  4. It gets its structure from a flexible interlocking frame that supports the main body of the tent. These tents have two or three interlocking shock-corded poles and they are hollow fiberglass or hollow aluminum tubes with metal housing connectors on each end that allows them to interlock together. When they get interlocked they create a thin flexible pole about an eighth of an inch to a quarter of an inch in diameter that’s tucked into the pocket or pin at the corner of the tent floor and arched across the tent to the opposite corner. When the tent poles cross they create an arch effect which becomes the frame of the tent. Arches are one of the strongest shapes used in construction and engineering. So having two or three arches built into the framing is a key factor in the dome tent to hold up the high winds and snow.
  5. One of the big distinctions between a dome and other styles of tents is that a dome tent is a double-wall tent. The structure of the tent is very breathable and waterproofing comes from the 2nd wall of the tent. This component is critical when it comes to dealing with condensation. It makes the dome tent the best style tent to take out in bad weather.

CONS

The drawbacks of the Dome style tent are the following:

  1. It is more difficult to set up as compared to other tents and it is a more lengthy process to set-up it. For the larger Dome style tents you may need a 2nd person to help you set up the tent.
  1. Another disadvantage to Dome-style tents is their use of space. Dome tents have pretty angled side walls that reduce the amount of space inside the tent. Also limits the amount of headroom that’s available in the tent.
  1. Another disadvantage is that you must crawl to get in and out of these. To operate the zipper that’s very close to the ground and you have to crawl to open it.
